A quiet introduction to horses and life on the farm
This quiet morning experience begins where the horses live: out in the field. Together, the children walk calmly to meet them, learning how horses notice, respond, and choose to engage.
The morning continues by bringing the horses in, helping with gentle care, and understanding why calm handling matters. The experience ends with a short, fully guided ride in the paddock, at walking pace, allowing each child to feel the movement of the horse in a safe and respectful way.
This is not a riding lesson or a children’s activity. It is an introduction to how horses live, how trust is built, and how responsibility comes before riding.
Group sizes are kept very small to protect the horses and maintain a calm atmosphere.

FAQ: Morning with the horses
Understanding what to expect helps both children and parents feel at ease.
These FAQs explain how the experience is structured, why it’s designed this way, and how we ensure a calm, safe, and respectful environment for both horses and young participants.
From group size to safety, clothing, and the gentle approach to riding, here you’ll find clear answers to the most common questions parents ask before booking.
Is this a riding lesson?
No. This is not a riding lesson or a pony activity.
The focus is on learning how horses live, how to approach them calmly, and how care comes before riding. The short paddock ride at the end is fully guided and done at walking pace only.
How long is the experience?
Approximately 45–55 minutes.
How many children take part?
A maximum of four children per session.
How is the riding part organized?
The paddock ride is done with two children at a time, each on their own horse, guided by experienced staff. The horses are led at walking pace, and the ride is short and calm.
What ages can participate?
Children aged 4 to 12 years are welcome. The program is adjusted gently depending on age, size, and confidence level.
Do parents need to stay?
Parents are welcome and encouraged to stay and observe. A calm and familiar presence often helps children feel more secure.
Is this safe for children?
Yes. Safety is central to everything we do. All activities are guided by experienced staff, group sizes are very small, and the paddock ride is slow and fully supervised. Staff may adjust or stop any part of the program if needed.
What kind of horses are used?
Only calm, experienced Icelandic horses that are well suited to working with children are selected. Horse welfare always comes first.
What should my child wear?
Warm outdoor clothing suitable for Icelandic weather and sturdy shoes. Riding helmets are provided.
Can my child participate if they have never been around horses?
Yes. No previous experience is required. This program is designed as a gentle introduction to being around horses.
Is riding guaranteed?
The guided paddock ride is included, but it always depends on the child’s comfort level and the horse’s condition that morning. Staff may adjust or skip the riding portion if necessary.
Is this suitable for nervous children?
Yes. Many children feel more comfortable because the program starts in the field and moves slowly, allowing the horses to approach in their own time.
Why is the group size so small?
Small groups help keep the experience calm, safe, and respectful for both children and horses, and allow staff to give each child close attention.
