Sustainable farming for a greener future

We are proud to be Iceland’s only garlic farm, producing top-quality organic carrots and other crops using regenerative farming methods that not only replenish the soil but also protect our air, water, and precious natural resources.

Since arriving on the farm, we have made many changes to optimize sustainable food production while minimizing our impact on local ecosystems. Our efforts include planting 50,000 trees to conserve biodiversity and provide shelter for both plants and our horses.

In addition to growing healthy, organic food, our focus on restoring natural resources and ecosystem functions has helped create a more resilient environment. This work contributes to reducing greenhouse gas emissions while supporting sustainable food production for future generations.

Regenerating Iceland for the future

A horse-based approach to habitat preservation

Nature’s complex functioning depends on horses as a keystone species. Our herd of Icelandic horses do their bit to help restore our land to its most diverse and dynamic state by grazing in harmony with wildlife and plants, thus preserving our pristine landscape.

Unlike sheep, horses are conservative feeders that consume coarser grasses over other plants. Due to their preference for grasses over flowering plants, rare plant species flourish in areas where they routinely graze.

Our herds have a large area to move around on, and this activity helps disturb soil and create the ideal habitat for essential burrow-nesting insects, while their manure enriches the soil with nutrients.

In addition to helping keep the land healthy, we host many educational tours and events with our horses that provide education, hands-on training, and hands-on experience.
