We arrived for an afternoon introduction, … More ride and meal with a Viking, as “experienced” horse people- however we still had plenty to learn about Icelandic culture, the horses and his farm. We then took the opportunity for a second ride down to the Black Beach which was the cherry on top. We stayed in the on farm cabins which were very comfortable and gave a great nights sleep. As the reviews demonstrate, you can’t go wrong with Mr Iceland if you want a genuine Icelandic experience. -

I had the most amazing time at Mr. Iceland during our recent trip, and I can’t recommend it enough! My daughter, husband and I stayed in one of their cozy cabins, and let me tell you, … More waking up to the sight of the beautiful Icelandic horses right outside our window was pure magic. The view from the bed was incredible—you could see the horses grazing and moving around, and we loved that we could step outside anytime to pet them. It made the whole experience feel so special and connected to nature.
The horseback riding itself was an absolute highlight. We rode along a stunning black sand beach with dramatic dunes and the ocean in the distance—it was breathtaking! The horses were so gentle and well-cared for, and you could tell they were loved. Hodour and his staff were incredibly welcoming and knowledgeable, guiding us with patience and sharing fascinating stories about the Icelandic horses and the area. They made us feel right at home, even though we were far from it.
Everything about our stay was wonderful—the cabin was comfortable and had such a cozy vibe, perfect for relaxing after a day of riding. The whole experience felt like a dream, especially for my daughter, who adores horses. If you’re looking for a unique and unforgettable adventure in Iceland, Mr. Iceland is the place to go. This stay was the highlight of our trip to Iceland. Our cabin was perfect! After several nights in hotels it was wonderful to have space to move about and the kitchenette was perfect for prepping snacks and simple dinners. The real star … More of the show was to have the horses in your backyard! It was such a beautiful experience. The huge windows give you incredible views in all direction- mountains and farms. We were also gifted with incredible northern lights on both nights of our stay. It was an unreal experience! While on the farm we booked a private horseback tour for my teen daughter and it was her favorite tour of our trip. She got to ride through several river crossings and experience the tolt. The horseback riding tour was absolutely the highlight. Mr. Iceland is incredibly knowledgeable and clearly passionate about his horses. He took the time to give us a short indoor riding lesson beforehand, making sure we were comfortable and confident before setting out. The ride itself was breathtaking, with sweeping views of the landscape and even a thrilling river crossing! It was a truly unique way to experience Iceland’s natural beauty.
One of the most special parts of our visit was sharing a traditional meal with Mr. Iceland as part of the “Dinner with a Viking” experience. The food he prepared was delicious, and getting to sit down with him and learn about Icelandic history, culture, and his deep care for the horses was both inspiring and enriching.

I stayed in Jakob's Old Farmhouse for 5 nights. It served as a perfect home base for the experiences I booked along the south coast. This charming cottage blends rustic charm (stone walls, wooden beams) with modern comforts (comfortable bed, well-equipped kitchen, excellent shower). Young horses just steps from the door add to the magic—one friendly fellow greeted me with a nicker each morning.
What truly distinguishes Mr. Iceland is Hordur's approach to horseback tours. He carefully matches horse with rider, sharing each animal's background and personality. His guidance focuses on forming genuine connections with these remarkable animals—a refreshing change from standard tours.
I joined the black beach tour for advanced riders. This ride traverses Hordur's private stretch of black sand, accessible only on horseback, with the North Atlantic crashing against the shore. Hordur shares fascinating local history and stories while riders wear green capes that add both warmth and enchantment to the journey.
Though I didn't book the "dinner with a viking," Hordur spontaneously invited me to share wine with him and his visiting friends the evening after my tour —a testament to the authentic hospitality you'll find here.
For travelers seeking a profound connection with Iceland's horses, land, and people, Mr. Iceland delivers an unmatched experience. Highest recommendation. -

By far my favorite experience in Iceland! It was an immersive experience about Iceland's history, culture and the people's connection to the land and its animals.
Hordur exudes patience and calmness, which are the very qualities … More he'll help you tap into during your horse riding lesson. As important as the instructions are for beginners like me, my biggest lesson was to center myself and stay in the present moment. Rather than me "controlling" the horse, I found that it attuned itself to my growing calmness and confidence and off we were!
After our ride, Hordur welcomed us to his cozy, rustic space and hosted a delicious dinner. After a satisfying meal, we had amazing conversations ranging from Iceland's history, philosophy of tending to land and animals, spiritualism and his own interesting personal life experiences. -
