Horse Riding Iceland

Excellent few hours horse-riding, just outside Reykjavík. Great host (and his sister) with clear instructions. Very friendly and relaxed atmosphere. Wonderful lunch in his own beautiful home. Route we took on the horses was a bit boring and slow, but good for first-timers.

Horse Riding Iceland Reykjavik

Hordur kindly offered to pick us up from the bus top location which really helped us. This day we were going to go snowmobiling, but Hordur had better reviews. We do not regret our decision. He has a true passion and love for the horses and is cultured being that he is well travelled. He took his time to teach and show us properly how to ride a horse. His assistant was great as well. Come with warm clothes if you come in winter because you don’t want to miss out on this experience.

Horseback Riding Reykjavik

This is our best experience at Iceland! The host Hordur is amazingly knowledgeable, educated and friendly; we have learned a lot from his insights through chatting with him. He taught us how to communicate with the horses, how to take care of them, how to ride them, and their history, characteristics, etc, basically anything you want to know. We enjoyed consersations with him on a wide range of topics and he is super kind and welcoming. The lamb he cooked is just mouthwateringly wonderful… (in fact, one of the best meals we had in Iceland!) You won’t be disappointed. It’s amazing value for money!!

Reykjavik Horse Riding Tour

This was the first thing we did after landing in rek the morning of and so glad we did. Hordor made us feel welcomed and we felt right at home. This horse riding tour was the first tour that actually taught us a bit on how to connect and truely guide our horses. This was such a valuable experience for us and his cooking was so good Having his two dogs with us along the ride was definitely a plus!

Icelandic Horse Tours Reykjavik

I can’t begin to describe how amazing this experience was. If you’re going to the Reykjavik area, even just for a day, I recommend meeting with Hordur. He knows so much about Iceland and its history, and he is very welcoming and friendly. Excellent communication before our meeting, and super friendly in person. The Icelandic horses are beautiful and you can tell icelanders are proud of these animals. This is a unique chance to get to know a bit more about them. We had no prior knowledge of horse riding, but felt like both we and the horses were in great hands throughout the day. The food was wonderful too. Thank you guys so much!

Icelandic Horse

What an absolutely fantastic experience! From the moment we got there we felt welcome and at ease. He explained everything in detail and made sure we were comfortable with the horses before riding out. We got to see beautiful scenery, we sang and shared stories. After, we enjoyed an incredible meal in his beautiful home and it was just extremely wonderful. I would absolutely love to come back and do this again. Truly an amazing experience.

Horseback Riding South Iceland

Hordur is a fantastic and very welcoming host! Our horse riding experience was magical and the snow was an added bonus. After the ride we had a deliciously prepared lunch with eggs and meat grown on the farm. My favourite part was grooming the horses – they are stunning! can’t wait to return next year! I highly recommend, even for complete beginners with no horse riding experience.

Riding Tours Reykjavík

This was a magical experience from start to finish, meeting up with Hordur, connecting with his wonderful horses, particularly ‘my’ mare who I fell so in love with! The lesson in Iceland Horsemanship and the ride out in the Icelandic countryside were fantastic. Conditions were clear and cold and Holtir, my horse for the day was just wonderful. Safe, forward going and very sweet! The delicious home produced meal in the house and good conversation rounded off a perfect experience. Highly recommend.

Riding Tours Iceland

What a great value for this experience. He gives you good riding tips as these are special horses! I felt his passion for horses, and appreciated the lovely lunch in his home. Make sure to dress appropriately if you ride in the winter-wool goes a long way.

Black Beach Horse Iceland

Great horse ride experience!!! Dreams come true. I could ride tölt on icelandic pony with real viking as a trainer 🙂 Delicious vegetarian dinner and coffee in very stylish home. The weather didn’t damaged this experience.

Reykjavic Horseback Riding

This was truly a magical experience. This was my first time riding and Hordur made me feel very comfortable. The location where we took the horses was secluded and was so magnificent… everything about this experience was just magical to say the least.

Reykjavic Horseback Riding

This experience was amazing to say the least. I never rode a horse before but Hodür conducted the perfect lesson beforehand to make me more comfortable. The scenery was gorgeous and the lunch was incredible as well. Hodür goes above and beyond to make his guests feel welcome. Would recommend to anyone no matter the experience level.

Best Horseback Riding In Iceland

Magique !

This was an absolutely amazing experience, Hordur is a wonderful person and an excellent host. He is warm and kind and carries the air of someone who is truly passionate about their life and what they do. He is an AMAZING cook. This was my first time having lamb, and it will be tough to top it, I’m not sure I ever will we will have to come back again!! My mom is a bit of a homebody and a little of a fearful person, she was very nervous about riding and Hordur was so patient and encouraging!! This was so great for her. We got to practice on the horses first and bond with them, this part felt very special. We made friends on this trip and will treasure the experience forever. Thank you!!

Hordur was such a gracious and knowledgeable host. He told us the story of how Icelandic horses come to exist and how they are different from any other horse. Hordur’s instructions with riding were extremely clear and helpful. I felt safe and supported throughout the process. The roast lamb lunch was incredibly delicious and I felt so welcomed in their home. Riding through the countryside was breathtaking and truly a once in a lifetime experience. I would highly recommend Hordur to anyone who is interested in this kind of wonderful adventure.

Riding with Hordur was a special experience on our trip to Iceland. It felt personal and he took great care to introduce us to our horses and really help us learn to ride before we got on the trail. The scenery was gorgeous and the lunch after was delicious!

Wow! This truly was an unforgettable day! Hordur is truly an Icelandic Viking, as well as a very knowledgeable and hospitable host. We learned about Icelandic horses, had a very helpful riding lesson, and a beautiful ride through the countryside. Hordur then welcomed us into his home for a delicious, homemade meal (the best food we’ve had during our entire vacation).

We were a group of 3 adults and 3 children who had zero experience riding horses. Hördur was a wonderful host. He made us feel very welcome and we felt very comfortable with his knowledge and experience. He has a great manner and was able to quickly put us at ease. I really appreciated the time and effort he put into making sure our kids had a really positive and enjoyable experience. The weather was pretty terrible the day we’d booked the experience but Hördur was able to roll with the punches and provide us with a great experience despite the weather. The amazing lunch after our horse riding experience was fantastic too – delicious and enjoyable. All in all our experience is one that we won’t forget and a definite highlight of our trip to Iceland.

This is a must-do experience! I had never ridden a horse in my life, and although I was very nervous, Hordur was patient and encouraging. I got the hang of it and was able to keep up on our beautiful trail ride! We are very interested in returning for the black beach horse riding retreat for a lengthier experience in the future. We really enjoyed being welcomed into Hordur’s home with the other guests and enjoying a delicious home cooked lunch while we shared stories. This was a major highlight of my trip and I will treasure it always. Highly, highly recommend!!!

This experience was really great. Hórdur loves life and is a natural guy. I highly recommend his experience, he is very professional in what he does – with the horses, with the people and also with cooking. He quickly understands your individual energy and that’s why he is a very good teacher and can show you what is important when you’re riding on a horse. It was a pleasure riding in company of his two dogs beside us in the nature of Iceland with a real viking! And I liked his sense of humour 😉 Thank you, Hórdur!

Hordur was able to pick the perfect mount for our experience as equestrians. My daughter and I have decades of riding knowledge, but never on these gated ponies. The horses are very well kept, healthy, sound and calm. Our next trip , we will be riding with them at Black beach riding retreat in south Iceland.

What are you waiting for? Book this experience right now. This was a unique and personal experience we will never forget. A fantastic riding lesson with Icelandic horses, and warm friendly guide and teacher and a long ride through a breathtaking landscape. And lunch was DELICIOUS.

We were introduced to the Icelandic horses by Hordur , he was knowledgeable and very sensitive to our fears of riding. After we groomed the horses, was such fun, we then rode on a beautiful trail. It was fantastic Then we went to his home for an authentic Icelandic lunch , was delicious and we sat family style with others, highlight of our trip. Thank you Hordur for a great time !

Amazing experience, also for not experienced riders, delicious food, very welcoming, would do it all over again, a must when you’re in Iceland.

Words cannot describe the experience! The horses were beautiful and Hordur was extremely patient with our level of (no) experience! His lunch was one of our best meals here in Iceland and the fact that it was made/served in his extremely gorgeous home amongst wonderful new friends , made it an experience we will never forget.

This experience is not not just jumping up on a horse and going for a ride. You are given the chance to really get to you the horse you’ll be riding g first and bond. Hordur shared with us his extreme knowledge and love of the Icelandic Horse. You could really tell how excited he was to share his knowledge with us.

My friend and I had an incredible experience with Hordur and we cannot recommend his tour enough. His farm is beautiful, the horses are amazing and he was incredibly friendly and fun to spend an afternoon with. The lunch he served was all organic and locally grown, and was absolutely delicious. We had such a hard time leaving! We would give it 30 stars if we could.

Wonderful experience with an awesome guide. Not only is Hordur’s mission with the horses great, his cooking is excellent. Would recommend. The fresh mountain air made it a great Fall experience. Thanks Hordur!

Hordur was a great host and vet knowledgeable and passionate about his horses. My wife and I were both beginners and Hordur and Merona(his assistant) made us feel very comfortable in the saddle. Hordur prepared a wonderful meal including vegetarian options for other group members. Would 1000% recommend this trip to anyone.

Great experience! Hordur is a very dedicated host and his Icelandic horses are in great condition. We made a nice horseback-ride in the wonderful surroudings. Afterwards we enjoyed a fantastic meal from lamb made by Hordur himself. Right away we made an new appointment for a horsebacktrip on his southfarm.

This was a wonderful experience. Yes, you can go site seeing elsewhere in Iceland, but nowhere did I find someone like Hordur who makes you feel connected to the land, people, and environment–especially the Horsies! My favorite part was how he explains and the connects you to the horses. Coming from a family who has a sister-in-law as a horse trainer, I can tell you that Icelanders–more generally, Europeans–have true respect for animals unseen here in the States. What an experience!

What a magical day I had, spending time, riding my Icelander horse on host Hodur’s farm. It was my first time on horseback since had a bad horseback during my college days. I appreciated how Hodur carefully selected horses to match each of use riders individually – he not only great individual instruction on how to work with our horse, he also gave me encouragement and confidence that I could enjoy handling and ride my brown beauty! On our cool, drizzling ride, we were blessed with a rainbow. Thank you, for the horseback ride and lunch, Hordur. Randi, thank you, too!

We had some spare time and decided to give this a try. Hordur gave us truly unforgettable experience, probably one of the best we had in Iceland, we both agreed on that. Definitely go, you will never regret!

If I could give this experience 10 stars..I would! This was such an amazing and unique experience with Hordur at his farm. The horses were beautiful and well tempered. Even having 0 horse riding experience wasn’t an issue. The ride was stunning and no other tourists are around. Lunch was beyond spectacular and worth it, best meal we’ve had in Iceland hands down. If you’re even thinking of taking the time to do this (Website hidden by Airbnb) it!

Fabulous outdoor experience riding Icelandic horses in the country with a 38th generation Icelandic horseman, who is a wonderful guide, in tune with his environment, his horses and his guests. Highly recommend it!

Stunning experience ! Had an amazing time there, we had a great introduction to the horses that put every guests at ease even if you never had any riding experience. After that the beautiful ride we had through the countryside just made me want to ride more ! We finished by a tasty lunch with local food and many great insights shared by Hordur. Awesome !

For some who had never really ridden, having the basic horseback lesson was much needed! I was terrified and after, I got on, and we started riding, I felt at ease. I really appreciated the special attention that our host put into each person and paired them up with the horse that fit them well. He did well, very knowledgeable and personable. Highly recommend.

THIS EXPERIENCE IS A MUST-DO!! I can’t imagine coming to Iceland without riding horses with Hordur and really getting to hear about and experience the Icelandic culture. We left the farm feeling like a part of Hordur’s family and cannot wait to come back and visit. The horses and scenery were so beautiful…definitely an experience I will never forget. Thank you Hordur!

So glad our group decided to book this activity! I was a bit scared to ride in the beginning but felt so comfortable and excited soon as I was paired with my sweet horse. Hordur was very welcoming, kind, and knowledgeable. The ride had stunning views even though it was raining and foggy. My favorite part was enjoying a delicious meal around the table and learning more about Iceland, Hordur’s life, and connecting with the rest of the group. I left with a big smile on my face! I will be recommending this experience to anyone traveling to Iceland in the future.

Riding Icelandic horses on Hordur’s farm was the best experience I had in Iceland! Hordur was knowledgeable and provided an unforgettable experience with the horses. Topping it all off with a traditional Icelandic meal was deliciously perfect!

Horseback riding with the views of the Icelandic countryside was absolutely incredible. Definitely a highlight of my trip to Iceland. Hordur takes the time to explain the history and important details about the unique Icelandic horses. We were able to connect with our chosen horses and start off with the basics. Once we were comfortable, we started on the ride through the trails. I felt like I was in a movie! After the ride we settled in for an excellent community lunch while chatting about Iceland and plenty of other topics. This is a great way to meet other travelers and have a chance to connect with them. Hordur’s place is charming and welcoming with plenty of animals roaming around. Hordur made everyone feel very welcome and at-home the whole time. I highly recommend this memorable experience!

We couldn’t have had a better time with Hordur! He was so kind, knowledgeable, and incredibly patient. His lamb was also delicious! Highly highly recommended going on this experience.

We had a lovely time with Hordur. He was incredibly thoughtful, kind and knowledgeable. Before getting on the horses, Hordur made sure that we were all comfortable with the process. He is also a great cook who embraces the idea of farm to table eating. We would go back in a heartbeat and highly recommend this experience. Thank you so much for an incredible beginning to our stay in Iceland!

This was such a great experience! The farm was beautiful, the horseback riding was really fun, lunch was delicious. Spending time with Hordur, learning about his family and life was a unique opportunity and the other participants were warm and engaging. There are so many levels to enjoy this on!

This was a fantastic experience and our favorite in Iceland. We met at his barn and got to make friends with the horses. Time was spent showing how to care for the horses grooming and saddling, then each person participated so you got to know your horse a bit and Hordor selected great horses for us each. Then he took the time to teach you riding skills and this helped develop a partnership and was nice to make everyone more comfortable.

Hordur is a wonderful guide to spend time with in Iceland. His knowledge of horses and his ability to help you feel comfortable riding were exceptional. The food he serves is fresh and cooked well. Overall, we’d recommend this to anyone visiting Iceland. Thank you Hordur!

Loved every minute! Hordur is extremely friendly and very passionate about what he does. We really took the time to get ready to ride and I felt super comfortable even while it has been a long time since I went horse riding. A highlight of my trip to Iceland and hope to be back again!

I can’t recommend this event highly enough. It’s so much more than just riding a horse, although that part was really excellent, it’s getting to know Hordur, seeing the farm he’s built, eating a meal entirely of food he’s grown. You come away understanding a bit more about what it is to be a farmer in Iceland, but more importantly you come away wanting to BE a farmer in Iceland. Absolutely excellent, thank you Hordur!

Hordur is a wonderful host who is an expert on horses and people. He gauged our abilities and taught us everything we needed to know to have a perfect horse ride, then gave us a delicious lunch made entirely of home-grown ingredients!

My family and I thoroughly enjoyed learning about, grooming and practicing the proper way to ride the horses prior to riding Hordur’s Icelandic Horses. It is obvious how dear these animals are to him by the time he takes to teach the methods of handling them. He has a wonderful assistant also! The ride was beautiful (we had unbelievably perfect weather) and calming. The meal was absolutely delicious as well. We are so glad we did this! Couldn’t be happier with the experience!

We fell in love with the horses! Hordur is welcoming, an expert teacher and knows his way around his special Icelandic horses. Now that we are back home from out trip to Iceland, our friends have asked us what we think most about the trip and, despite the gorgeous waterfalls and geysers and glaciers, our experience with Hordur really stands out! We were allowed the time to groom and settle with our horses, took a lovely ride and came back for an amazing homemade lamb lunch! It is likely the wholistic experience that remains. To come away understanding something deep about someone’s culture is a gift.

Our ride and meal with Hordur was one I will never forget. Riding through the rain, connecting with the horses, and then dining with Hordur was almost a surreal experience. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

This was an amazing experience and we loved every minute! Hordur took great care in showing us step by step the Icelandic form of riding. It was a wet day, but he made sure we were comfortable and taken care of. The horses were amazing and the scenery breathtaking. I highly encourage this experience!

I have done a lot of traveling and a lot of excursions and adventures but this one truly tops them all. Hordur is the most gracious host I’ve ever encountered and he truly made this experience something special to me. The horses and his expertise along with his generosity are unmatched in any other experience I’ve ever had. I feel I’ve made a true friend and will absolutely return to Iceland to take this adventure to the next level!

This experience was truly special for our family. Unfortunately our oldest daughter felt ill and decided not to attend, which caused us to be 10 minutes late. Hordur was very kind and forgiving about that. Hordur did an excellent job of teaching everyone how to ride and feel comfortable with the horses before the trail ride (lots of practice). I wasn’t sure about the horse I was riding as she acted out a little in the small area where the lessons took place, but Hordur assured me she would do better out on the trail. He was right! She was a pleasure to ride. My son and I had the least experience with riding horses (having only done it a couple of times in our lives) but we had a great time. My youngest daughter (13), and one with the most experience – English riding lessons for a year – loved it so much she said she wanted to do it again. Tólting was her favorite! My wife (who grew up around horses) loved the history and knowledge about Islandic horses Hordur brought to the experience. The meal after the ride was absolutely delicious. The lamb was amazing. Hordur made us feel like family as we shared a bit about ourselves with each other during the meal. I would highly recommend this experience to anyone interested in Islandic horses and experiencing some wonderful local hospitality.

icelandic horse farm

Amazing experience. The horses are really friendly, easy to ride. Hordur is the best person you can find to show you the Icelandic horses, also the Iceland Lamb. Really tasty lamb, organic and healthy food. Highly recommend to everyone! Thank you Hordur, my wife will be always thankful to you.

 Horseback Riding Iceland

Hordur kindly offered pick up service, which I truly appreciated. The horses were friendly and Hordur was an excellent & patient teacher. Despite the weather being really cold and windy, I had a great time riding (and did so for around 40 min or so to not stay too long in the snow) and enjoyed seeing the beautiful winter landscape. The food was soo good. Highly recommend this experience and would like to do it again. Thank you for a great horseback riding experience in Iceland!

Horse Riding Iceland

Hordur and his horse farm really manifested the magic of Iceland. Hordur was kind, soulful, knowledgeable and really put his love for the animals to this unique experience. He introduced us to the history of his family, his country and the way of the Icelandic horses. I was completely charmed and inspired. One of the most insightful pieces of advise I’ve ever received is Hordur’s meditative riding comment about being balanced and paying attention to oneself and the horse will sense your energy and mirror that. The landscape that we ride into was also magnificent and out of this world. Through Hordur, we entered a portal to a wonderful way of living, to authenticity and breathing nature. After our ride, Hordur treated us with one of the best meals I’ve ever had. The lamb was so soft and every details of the meal was as dedicated as artwork. If you are in Iceland, this is definitely a magical experience that will make your trip memorable!

Horse Riding Iceland Reykjavik

This was really an experience! It can’t be described how amazing this was. You’ll have to experience it yourself. We got to meet his horses and he learned us about them, their origin, how to treat them and how to ride them. He truly showed his knowledge about the Icelandichorse and the beaty of Iceland. When it got to cold to ride, Hordur offered us a historytour around the area nearby, and he told us about the «Saga of Egil Skallagrimsson». During the end of the tour, Hordur had prepared a meal for the kings. And he gathered us around the table, like the true vikings would. I would recommend this to everyone who visits Iceland, as it gives you way more than any touristcompanies could offer.

Horseback Riding Reykjavik

Absolutely the highlight of our time in Iceland (and we were there for a week!) The authenticity and intimacy of this trip is what makes it so special. Hordur welcomes you into his (incredible) home, takes you to his stables and takes the time to understand you, why you’re visiting Iceland and what you’d like to gain from your experience with him. My partner had never ridden a horse before and was a little nervous, but after learning all about the Icelandic horses and their wonderful temperament, then grooming the horse she’d been paired with…well a picture says a thousands words so see for yourself how she felt when it came to the ride. The lamb was out of this world, hands down the best meat we ate in Iceland and it was lovely to learn exactly where the lamb had come from and how it had arrived to our plates. There seems to be a lot of very touristy, regimented experiences where coach loads of people are dropped off, guided through an experience in an orderly fashion and then put back on the coach. This is not one of those. The groups are small and, although still professionally organised, the time you spend has a degree of flexibility (we ended up in Hordur’s 4×4 to visit his neighbours farm….and pub). Final point….amazing value when compared to the other experiences available. We’ll be back

Horse Riding Reykjavik

This was an absolutely stunning experience! I would recommend this to ANYONE who likes to HAVE FUN, loves animal’s and take there adventure out doors! This is a must on your trip to Iceland !

Reykjavik Horse Riding Tour

Wow, what an incredible and unique experience! Hordur was welcoming, and he made the horseback ride and lunch such a special time. This was easily my favorite part of my trip to Iceland! As a rider with some experience, I felt like Hordur catered the riding lesson to my knowledge and provided really valuable feedback to me as a rider. His horses are gorgeous and so easygoing, sweet, and inviting for riders of all levels. After our glorious ride, we had a delicious lunch in Hordur’s beautiful home. He is fun to talk to and one of the kindest people I have met while traveling!

Icelandic Horse Tours Reykjavik

Hörður’s experience is magical. The Icelandic horse is a majestic animal and you get to discover it through all of Hörður’s stories during the experience. The lunch was a perfect way to wrap-up the experience, and exchange with the other participants, inside a beautiful house.

Icelandic Horse

This experience was definitely worth it! Our host was super friendly and made us feel right at home. We had a briefing period where we went over safety and basic instructions, and then we were assigned our horses. The landscape was SURREAL; it was the most amazing views we had ever seen. We went on Novemb (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) , and everything was blanketed in gorgeous snow. It was extremely cold, so make extra sure you’re bundled up! There was a peacefulness to the ride because our route was solitary and tranquil. The quietness coupled with the snow all around us and the creek running beside us made it feel like a fairytale. Afterwards, the traditional lamb he prepared for us was delicious! He is such a generous host and tells lots of great stories. Never a dull moment. Incredible experience!

Horseback Riding South Iceland

Expérience formidable dans un cadre magnifique! Je recommande a 100%! Hordur est une personne agréable et pédagogue, les chevaux sont fantastiques. Une véritable déconnection!

Riding Tours Reykjavík

What a wonderful experience. Hordur had me and the other guests feeling confident on horseback in no time. The path we rode on took us through some very stunning places. After the ride we had lunch in his house which was absolutely delicious. Hordur was very kind and welcoming. We shared some stories and a had a few laughs. This is definitely the favourite part of my trip and I would recommend anyone that has a few hours to spare to take part in this experience. I can guarantee that you will not regret it!

If you are looking for a wonderful, day trip experience near Reykjavík this one is not to be missed! The farm is situated in an idyllic setting and the host is deeply knowledgeable and experienced in providing guests with a one of a kind adventure. The experience features a fascinating history and key information about the Icelandic horse. It also provides valuable facts about interacting with this unique and beautiful creature. The host will ensure that you are safe, skilled, and confident to participate in the ride and guide you on a scenic tour of the beautiful landscapes around his farm. After this lovely ride you will be greeted with the most wonderful hospitality to a delicious lunch certain to be filled with great conversation and many smiles. Overall this has been amongst our very favorite experiences we have had in Iceland – many thanks to the hosts and everyone else who made this wonderful experience possible, thank you so very much!

One of a kind experience, in an amazing location. My wife, 10 year old son, and myself really enjoyed our adventure with Hordur. We had a great opportunity to learn more about Icelandic horses, and the history of them as well. The riding lesson was on point. Hordur did a great job explaining everything, and was patient in making sure everyone was suited to ride on the trail. This was my sons second time riding a horse by himself. Hordur matched him up with the proper horse for his skill level, and took additional time to make sure his technique was good. The trail ride was beautiful, and it was awesome to connect with your horse on this little journey. Hordur’s assistant, Marona was also very helpful, and went with us on the trail ride. The meal afterwards was the cherry on top, as the lamb lunch, and organic vegetables were nearly our best meal we had in Iceland, which is saying a lot considering the dining there is pretty amazing. We can’t wait to join Hordur on his extended 2 day experience when we come back to Iceland. This is a 5 star experience, and was money well spent. We highly recommend Hordur’s experience! Thanks again for the opportunity Hordur!

Amazing experience! As a Westerner and my style of horsemanship, the realization of having to adjust my habits made me nervous but Holdur is an amazing teacher and I felt comfortable with myself and the horses in no time. Looking forward to other excursions with this host

We got to know a bit about the history or Icelandic horses, and then when riding them Hordur was very attentive to making sure we were prepared for the ride. I would definitely recommend this, and it was the highlight of my time in Iceland.

This was a wonderful day. Weather prevented us from actually taking the horses out but we got to experience riding around close to base. Hordur and his absolutely lovely Swedish assistant made the experience special, really looked after us and helped in everyway make the day one to remember.

I would highly recommend booking this experience to anyone, it was an amazing day where everyone was made to feel welcome. We were able to spend time getting to know the horses, before having a lesson before our trek. As I am an experienced rider, Hordur took me for a canter at the end of the trek, it was great that the experience could be personalised to your riding level. Overall an amazing experience that I will never forget and would definitely book again!

This is a wonderful and memorable experience that I would highly recommend to anyone visiting Iceland! Hordur is a fantastic and welcoming host whose passion and love for his farm and horses truly elevates the whole experience. Even if you have no previous riding experience, such as my sister and I, Hordur and his friendly horses will put you at ease. You will learn the history of Icelandic horses, how to bond with, and properly command and ride your horse before heading out on a scenic tour of the surrounding countryside. At the end of the day, Hordur welcomes you into his lovely home to share a delicious home-cooked meal with your new friends. My sister and I absolutely loved horseback riding with Hordur and it was definitely one of the highlights of our trip. This is a must-do while in Iceland–you won’t regret it!

Hordur was the perfect host. First brushing the Icelandic horses then riding into the mountains, most wonderful experience. We were then invited into Hodor’s home for lunch family style, a perfect afternoon. I highly recommend this experience!

A absolute pleasure riding Icelandic horses; calm animals with a truly unique coat. As a western style rider, Hordur took his time explaining the difference between riding/horses in America and Iceland. And the inclusion of a farmers style meal made the experience that much better. Would recommend no matter the experience level.

What an amazing experience! Hordur is a friendly and welcoming person. I thoroughly enjoyed his stories and knowledge about Iceland. He does a great job pairing you with a horse that you can handle and you can tell his horses are well loved and cared for. I felt like a part of the family during my time at the farm. The lunch afterwards was amazing. So delicious! I highly recommend this experience. Until next time Hordur. Sending you and your family many blessings.

This was a great experience! We were: 1) able to experience Icelandic horses in person 2) meet and interact with a very knowledgeable local 3) see nature and trails not accessible via driving 4) have an amazing home cooked lamb Thank you for the amazing and memorable afternoon!

You simply must add this to your list of activities to do whilst visiting Iceland. Hordur is a wonderful host and makes you feel very welcome. His love for the horses is evident to see & his knowledge is very reassuring. I am a very nervous rider & can honestly say the horse he gave me to ride was perfect for me. My horse looked after me & I bonded with him. My mother hadn’t ridden for around 45 years and she also felt very safe. We enjoyed a wonderful meal prepared by Hordur after our ride which he made from all organic ingredients. We both thoroughly enjoyed the entire experience and would highly recommend.

Hördur was an outstanding host! You can tell he really enjoys what he does. Also, he knows his way around a kitchen as well as a stable. After we finished our horseback riding, he served us a delicious lunch consisting of lamb and vegetables all from the local farms. I highly recommended anyone staying in or around Reykjavík to take advantage of this amazing adventure! You won’t regret it!

The Icelandic horse is such a special breed and Hordur made the experience as unique as they are. He has gorgeous, healthy, affectionate horses, the countryside is breathtaking and his home, food and hospitality were truly remarkable. This experience is not to be missed.

What a special experience. Hordur made us feel comfortable and connected with the horses. He was calm, patient, knowledgeable and kind. The scenery was incredible and the trip allowed us to get off the beaten path of tour buses doing the Golden Circle and experience the area at a slower pace and from a different perspective. The meal was delicious and we enjoyed it even more so knowing it was all locally sourced. I wouldn’t hesitate to recommend this experience if you want to try something unique during your trip to Iceland.

I had such a great time with Hordur, today was amazing! He is very knowledgeable and fun to talk to and is truly an expert at what he does. He’s also a pretty darn good cook! The meal we had was super delicious (you absolutely MUST try the lamb). The route we rode was gorgeous and I got to see a large waterfall, some smaller waterfalls, and plenty of mountains. 10/10 would do this again! Can’t wait to come back to Iceland and tour with Hordur again!

This experience is a MUST do in Iceland! Hordur is such a gentleman and a very spiritual individual. He genuinely cared about his horses and he taught you how to be one with yours. I’ve been on several horseback riding trips (No I am not experienced whatsoever) and this takes the cake for all of them combined. He respects the spirits of his animals and invites to into that kind of tranquility. We rode in breathtaking backcountry in Iceland and the scenery was breathtaking. He made sure that each one of us was well looked after. He cooked an amazing feast after that and respected the fact that we were vegetarian and made us yummy omelettes. I took him aside as I am Muslim and I asked if I could have quite place to pray in his home. He was HONORED that I prayed in his home and that made me feel very special and truly welcomed and accepted. He was so happy as were we. He even thanked us. Thank you Hordur. You will see us again my friend 🙂

Riding and having lunch with Hordur was really a great experience! I have gone on many vacation horseback riding excursions, but I have never learned as much about the basics of riding as I did from Hordur. He is highly knowledgeable about the history of the Icelandic horse and about horsemanship. He helped us to establish a connection with our horses before we even got on the horse, and that was very unique and a great way to start the ride. The landscape we rode through was beautiful – there was a rainbow which appeared over a snow-covered mountain as we rode along. You can’t get better than that! After the ride, we were treated to a delicious lunch. We ate sitting around a large table in a very relaxed way in Hordur’s house, which is beautiful. Hordur himself was so friendly, genuine and relaxed. It could not have been a better experience.

This was the most amazing experience! Hordur was so patient with each of us, making sure we knew what we were doing and practicing before we left the coral. This is English riding, which is almost opposite of western style. Watching him with my husband and the two other novice riders you can see his passion and love for horses. Lunch was amazing and the conversation flowed easily.

Absolutely by far my favorite thing to do in Iceland! From the moment you meet Hordur, he greets you with a big smile and instantly makes you feel welcome and safe. He is so gentle with his horses and you can see that he cares deeply about both them and the people he introduces them to. Making sure you are comfortable with everything, Hordur can absolutely evaluate one’s level of ability in just an instant and makes the whole ride and day at the farm a once in a lifetime experience. Not only is he also a great cook, but really does make you feel like a true friend to both him and his home.

This experience is amazing! Being able to meet the horses made us so comfortable and confident, and made the ride so enjoyable. This was the best meal I’ve had in Iceland!

Such a fun experience. Hordur is incredibly kind and the horse riding was great for beginners. The lunch was also the best meal I had in Iceland. Thanks!

This experience was great. Hordur made it very unique, you will get to know your horse, groom it, walk with and only afterwards ride. He made it so easy, that people who never rode horse before, felt confident and handled it without a problem. Once we came back he treated us like family members, opened up his house where we had very tasty lunch waiting. Learned a lot about Icelandic horses and culture. I will highly recommend this experience to everyone, thank you Hordur for making my day.

The experience we had with Hordur was amazing, definitely a must do experience in Iceland! We want to come back and see him again!

Horseback riding with Hordur was my favorite tour during my trip to Iceland. Hordur picked me up at the Háholt bus stop and we drove to his farm. I was greeted by friendly dogs and got to take a walk up to meet the horses on an exceptionally beautiful sunny day. Hordur selected Kristal for me to groom and get to know before our ride. Hordur is an excellent teacher, very patient, knowledgeable, and kind as I fumbled a bit with the reins. As we set out on the trail Hordur made sure I was comfortable and continued teaching me how to ride. I was lucky to be the only guest on this particular day and got fantastic personalized attention and instruction. It wasn’t long before we were able to go fast and enjoy the stunning scenery. Lunch was delicious and was the perfect way to end the tour before Hordur drove me back to the bus stop. I highly recommend taking a tour with Hordur. I feel like I have a new friend in Iceland and hope to take his south shore tour when I return!

Esperienza unica ed indescrivibile! Hordur è una persona fantastica, preparato sull’argomento e ti fa sentire a casa!Non si può chiedere di meglio!Consiglio a tutti l’esperienza!Lezione impeccabile, cavalcata emozionate!Ottimo pranzo,il migliore avuto dopo 7gg di permanenza in Islanda, con prodotti ottimi di loro produzione!A fine pasto ci ha offerto anche dell’ottima vodka!Cosa aspettate a prenotare fatelo immediatamente!

Fantastic in every way. This is a truly unique and unforgettable experience that is authentically Icelandic. My husband and I with our 12 year old daughter visited Iceland in August 2019 and stayed in Reykjavík. We did all the expedition group tours by bus to all the must-see sights. While all these group tours were exceptional, this Icelandic horseback riding experience and the later home-cooked sit-down lamb rack lunch were more exceptionally special, personalized, and exquisite. The host, Hordur, is very knowledgeable and considerate. He planned everything so thoughtfully from A to Z. He got us to groom and connect with the horses. He gave us a coherent safety lesson. He attended to our different abilities with the horses. We highly recommend this experience.

This experience was the highlight of our week stay in Iceland! We came in with very little knowledge about horseback riding in general but Hordur was patient and provided individual attention when needed. The ride around the countryside was gorgeous and the family-style meal afterwards was delicious. I would say this is a must do activity for anyone visiting!

Wow, what an amazing, once-in-a-lifetime (though I’d love to make it twice or more) experience! I enjoyed all parts of it. We started with some history of the Icelandic horse, a subject about which Hordur has apparent passion and knowledge, and then spent time brushing our horses and having a lesson. It wasn’t your typical trail ride experience (just jumping on a horse already saddled and taking a ride); Hordur obviously cares a lot about the horses and our safety, and he and his assistants took the time to help each person individually. He’s very kind and understanding, and right away said that if anyone feels like it is not their day to ride horses, that is okay. I appreciated that he said that, since horseback riding can be a scary experience, and no one should do it if they’re not in the right state of mind. One of my travel mates was feeling ill and another simply had a bad riding day, and everyone was still very welcome at the farm. I felt safe with Hordur’s horses, more safe than I’ve felt with horses at other farms, and I believe this would be a great experience for first-time riders, especially since Icelandic horses have a very gentle gait. Lunch afterward was wonderful, authentic, and delicious. My group happened to have people from three different countries (United States, Germany, and Sweden) and it was fun talking to them as well as hearing about Hordur’s past experiences. Absolutely jump on this experience if you can for a unique and wonderful time in Iceland!

I can not recommend this experience highly enough. Hordur is such a wonderful teacher and guide. He matched us with great horses based on our various levels of experience and made sure we felt safe at all times. We enjoyed a beautiful ride followed by a delicious lunch on the patio. A must do if you want to spend some time with the horses in Iceland while you are here! No better way to do it.

This was a unique and genuine experience and myself and my husband are so glad we found this! Hordur was extremely knowledgeable and greatly enjoyable to be with for the experience. The horses were well cared for and very friendly. The experienced catered to everyone in our group ranging from experienced to first time riders and Hordur took the time to make sure everyone felt comfortable before heading out on the ride! It helped we had two other lovely people in our group who we shared the experience with – as well as the two doggies that joined us on our ride! The food was also delicious and very fresh – we sat out in the sun and chatted over lunch and got to know everyone. It was a very memorable experience. I highly recommend this to anyone coming to Iceland wanting to do a unique experience. It will be one you will remember for a long time. Thank you Hordur!

Hordur was a sensitive and kind host. I was not up to the complete experience and he gave me some time and consideration. I would highly recommend this experience even if someone isn’t a good rider.

From my first communication, I sensed Hordur was a great guy. He responded to questions and concerns quickly, and was very welcoming. He was very deliberate in matching us with horses, clear with directions, and patient with those who needed more help. He gave us all encouraging words as we worked with our horses before the ride. The ride itself was nice and all of the horses did a great job! His assistants were top notch. The food was delicious and plentiful. Hordur was glad to accommodate my wife and daughters with a non-meat option at lunch. We had a great visit at his outdoor table (23C that day!). I highly recommend this experience if you are interested at all in horses and want a great outdoor experience.

So much fun. A lovely day of learning how to ride a horse (with almost 0 prior experience) and it took no time to get comfortable once we got going. Really a mix of horses + tour, because the ride went through beautiful wildflower fields, creeks, and a panorama of greenery. The food was also amazing! We had such a nice lunch all together afterwards, and left feeling happy to have met everyone and spent a few hours crossing paths in this special way.

This was the most powerful and breathtaking experience we could ever ask for! Hordur and his calm, gentle horses are all master teachers themselves! They tamed us, and taught us how to breathe and relax again. Even though we were beginners, we felt safe and comfortable. Lunch was so simple but gourmet! We were speechless! His house is beautiful and inspirational as the outdoors. My husband, kids and I will treasure all of this, as it is better than what the reviews say. Thank you Hordur, for sharing your time and expertise with us, for welcoming us into your home. We are honored yet so humbled! This experience reminded us how to live life again, the way we should, everyday! So grateful to you and your horses always!

Words from our dear guests

A highlight of our trip. Hordur is a wonderful host that cares about his horses and guests. He talked with us about the horses history, along with ensuring to pair us with the correct horse. We had time to get introduced to our horses, and some basic riding lessons. The ride along the countryside is stunning. Afterwards we relaxed, had lunch, and great conversation. The lamb was the best we had in Iceland. If we get the chance to come back to Iceland, we would do this again!

Best decision I made was booking this tour while visiting Iceland. I would do it again without hesitation! I had a “bad” horse experience as a child so decades later I finally got on the horse again and I’m glad I did! Hordur is very knowledgeable and takes great care of his horses. He taught us step by step and before we knew it we were horseback riding down a beautiful valley, crossing rivers and just admiring the scenery (surprisingly very green for March 1st). I loved crossing the streams with the horses, they were very sure-footed and a nice ride. The ride was just the right amount of time. By the time we returned we were all ready for lunch. Lunch was delicious! A meal I will remember and the company was fantastic! We didn’t even mind the 43 degrees and rain! It was worth it! Don’t let weather stop you! It would be beautiful in the snow too!! Afterwards Hordur pointed us towards a pool (with hot tubs) nearby. That was the perfect was to end the afternoon riding!! Great local recommendation.

Wow! This was an incredible experience from start to finish! Hordur was the consummate host; his knowledge of Icelandic horses, world politics, languages (English, Spanish, Icelandic, Swedish and Norwegian), etc. is truly breathtaking, and made for a unique experience. Hordur easily connected with everyone on the experience, from adolescents to adults, and explained everything about the Icelandic horses in great detail. The riders got to know their horses, brushed them, learned how to saddle them and fed them hay at the end of the ride. The ride itself was out-of-this-world: the Icelandic landscape is stunningly beautiful on this cold February morning! At the end of the ride, Hordur treated us to a home-cooked meal of local lamb, salad and potatoes, which were exquisitely prepared! The tour was supposed to end by 2, but it was 4 PM and Hordur was clearly enjoying the conversation, and in no hurry to usher us out. This was a magnificent experience! Highly, highly recommended!

This was by far the best part of my experience in Iceland. This is a once in a lifetime opportunity. You must come to the farm and see this for yourself. You will never forget it.

Ride like a Icelander and eat like a Viking! This experience blew our minds – a must if you’re in Iceland. The horses were so calm and affectionate, felt extremely safe the whole time and the ride was very scenic. Hordur is a great guy and a fantastic cook. Loved it!

I can’t say enough about today. The valley is beautiful. The horses were majestic, happy, and extremely well taken care of. Hordur is a knowledgeable, fascinating, and genuine person and made me feel very comfortable despite not having ridden a horse since childhood. This was hands down one of the best experiences of my entire life. Authentic and magical. The lunch was wonderful, the home and farm were beautiful, and I learned so much! I will treasure the memory of this experience forever! Please book this experience. I guarantee it will be the highlight of your trip.

Hordur’s love for what he does shows. He took his time explaining and introducing us to his beautiful horses, and taught us how to understand and ride them. By far this was the highlight of my 8 days in Iceland, and I’ll always remember meeting the wonderful people in this experience, and us all becoming more confident and relaxed riding the beautiful Icelandic horses, as well as sharing a delicious meal together. It was a meditative and relaxing experience. Thank you again Hordur for your hospitality, and sharing your love and passion with us all! You’re truly gifted at what you do, and I appreciate how you created this unique experience to share it!

Our experience with Hordur at his horse farm was truly a once-in-a-lifetime experience. He was extremely knowledgable and took the time to talk about his experience with horses, and share a background about the horses themselves. We were also fortunate to have some great fellow travelers sharing the experience with us and Hordur also made sure to build a great group dynamic. He took time to make us all feel comfortable and safe with the horses, and then we got a quick riding lesson after brushing and saddling our horses. The horseback riding itself was amazing!!!!!!! His two dogs are also adorable. After, we had the best meal of our whole trip in his beautiful farmhouse. I loved that he also took time to really cultivate meaningful stories with the group and shared lots of interesting facts about his experiences in Iceland. This is truly a personalized experience that is NOTHING like those tour buses or other things you may find online. Thank you for making this such a great morning on your beautiful farm.
